Cleft Post & Rail
Our cleft (split) post and rail is made with chestnut or oak, using morticed posts, augered beneath ground. The all-round posts are spaced every six feet, with usually three rails per bay. The rails are scarfed to fit into the mortices making a nice traditional, animal-proof fence.
Sawn posts & rails can be used to acheive a simialar effect to the above, not as strong or traditional as the cleft post & rail, but a nice looking fence all the same. ,
