Our standard Post & rail fence uses posts 6" X 3", spaced at 6ft centres and augered min 24" beneath ground with ballast rammed around the post for stability. Rails are 4" X 2", depending upon the situation (5" X 3" posts &
3½" X 1½" rails can be used if necessary).

Our traditional morticed post and rail is a smarter version of the above and looks especially good along the driveway. We mortice the posts for the scarfed rails and posts are centred every twelve feet with a 4" X 2" or 5" X 3" post (pricking post) knocked beneath ground in the centre of each bay. Posts can also be positioned at 6ft centres, an especially nice fence for the driveway.

Post and Rail fencing, usually used to fence in horses & livestock, is also often erected along the drive-way and for paddock & general fencing applications.

As an equestrian horse fence, post and rail can be installed with one, two, three or four rails, depending on the situation, with wire field fence or horse netting put behind or in front of the rails, especially if sheep or cattle are also in the field (some horse owners prefer not to put on wire netting). One or two single strand wires can be strained & stapled above the top rail to stop horses biting the timber.
